Oahu is the most visited island in Hawaii. It also has about 75% of the population of Hawaii. Oahu has the only inter-state Highways? in Hawaii. If you are taking a cruise you will depart from Oahu, and in many cases you will pass at least through the airport while traveling to some of the other Hawaiian islands. There are a large amount of hotel rooms on Oahu mostly concentrated in Waikiki. There are some very nice hotels outside of Waikiki also. Waikiki offers a combination of value, nightlife and convenience. Activities are easily arranged at most hotel lobbies. Restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Waikiki is a good choice if you are looking for the lowest cost vacation possible in Hawaii. The combination of many flights to Oahu at discount rates, a good selection of budget hotels and the use of transfers instead of rental cars help keep costs down. In addition there are many reasonably priced restaurants in Waikiki and a low cost public transportation system. Oahu is also great if you want to splurge a bit and stay at some of the nicest hotels in Hawaii and the country. Renting a car is also an option as there are many sites you may want to see on your own.
